How To Follow A Recipe

You might think that it’s easy to follow a recipe, but like many others, I tend to scan, and focus in on the elements that I consider to be the important aspects for recreating a recipe. That is until something goes kinda, radically wrong. Then, I’ll back track and see that I missed a vital piece of information. Sometimes it’s okay, and other times it’s not!

It’s important that you are able to read and follow a recipe, so that you can understand what you must do to recreate the beautiful picture showing you what the end result should look like. In watching this video from ATK, I realized that I must make sure that when I share my recipes with you, that I don’t assume that you will know what to do or what to look for.

Moving forward, I need to give more visual suggestions, and what to look for during the cooking process, rather than a specific cook time, because everyone’s stove, grill, broiler etc. cook at different temperatures. In short, it’s my job to set you up for success.

Now with that being said, to my family members (and…you know who you are), you can’t deviate from the entire recipe, and then call me, and tell me that my recipe doesn’t work. Here’s the deal, if you are substituting ingredients that have not been suggested, and or using totally different cooking techniques, you will not experience a successful outcome. In short, you’ve created your own recipe!

A well written recipe is like a treasure map that will always end with you finding that pot of gold.
